Who writes Under The House Guide
An independent guide to the water and the structure under a house: wet basements, crawl spaces, sump pumps, mold on framing, foundation cracks, bowing walls and the grading outside. We don't sell waterproofing, we don't quote prices, and we say plainly where the job stops being maintenance and starts being a licensed structural engineer.
One person writes this, not a company
Under The House Guide is an independent project by Javier García García. There is no newsroom behind it and no brand paying for it: there is one person researching each topic, checking it and writing it in plain language for a homeowner — which is exactly what was missing when he had to sort these things out in his own house.

We are not licensed tradespeople, and that needs saying
There is no trade qualification behind these articles. What there is: research time, official sources cited, and no commercial interest in which option you pick. That is exactly why the site keeps insisting on where your own job ends and licensed work begins — it isn't a disclaimer, it is the real limit of what this site can give you.
How we check what we publish
- Sources are cited. Nearly every page ends with a sources block linking to the regulator, standard or body the information came from, so you can check it without taking our word for it.
- If it can't be verified, it isn't stated. Where a figure has no source we can open and read, we generalise or say plainly that it isn't confirmed. We would rather say less than fill gaps.
- Regulation is explained, not interpreted. We name the rule and point you to the body responsible. This site does not replace an adviser or a licensed professional.
What you won't find here
- Nothing for sale. We don't sell or install any of what we explain.
- No paid content. Nobody pays to appear, there are no sponsored posts, and we don't accept copy written by an interested third party.
- No advice that replaces a professional. Where the subject touches safety, health or licensed work, we say so and send you to the right person.
- No invented data. That is the rule everything else follows from.

This is the part we value most. If something is wrong, out of date or simply false, write to hello@underthehouseguide.com with the correction or the source: it gets checked and, where warranted, the article is corrected. It has happened before and it will happen again.
